The Big Hype In Experiental Art

ABSTRACT

Is Experiential Art the next big thing in Art? It is a label encompassing crowded immersive environments and an acknowledged masterpiece in a candy mound. An investigation of the range of work in this artform reveals significant, lasting artistic value being produced. One distinctive methodology of Experiential Art is the use of various cross-sensory and interactive objects to create multi-sensory artistic experiences. They work to transform visitors from passive viewers into active participants at differing levels of participation and activity. This presents challenges for typical exhibition protoculs based on passive viewer behavior and is provoking new exhibition design concepts around interaction with the artwork.
